N2  -  Summary. For a good use of numbers and values: learning from red meats and glifosates. Over the last years, two controversial cases: the qualification of red meats as cancerogenic agents by IARC, and the ambivalent behavior of European agencies on the environmental-human risks of glifosate, have made epidemiology a protagonist of mass media debates.  As it often happens, the acute attention has been quickly followed by disappearance of the cases. Their analysis provides a model scenario of frontiers between scientific methodologies and results, and their perception-impact by public opinion and decision makers. An agenda of actions in the more specific area of risk assessment-management by nursing personnel is proposed.
