N2 - Summary. Where do we stand with Randomized Clinical Trials? The changing face of clinical trials is the title of a series of articles published in the New England Journal of Medicine, that deals with the contemporary challenges that affect clinical trials. The articles of the series are briefly commented on and among the main take home messages, relevant for nurses and general practitioners, very rarely mentioned and/or authors of clinical trials, are the following: a. trials are the gold standard for producing new knowledge if based on a relevant question/uncertainty; b. the design should be adapted to the question and contexts; c. the main future challenge for trials should be to involve (and be planned for) on chronic, frail and underserved populations.
