N2 - Summary. Hospital floors and sinks: an unappreciated reservoir for health care associated pathogens? Sink drain pipes and floors can host multidrug resistant bacteria, responsible of hospital acquired infections. Two recent articles studied the level of contamination of hospital floors and high-touch objects and the spread of microorganisms from sinks to patients. Although the old recommendations of washing hands after any contact with the floor and without touching sinks and faucets remain, these studies offer insights on the possible role of floor disinfection and on strategies to control sinks contamination.
