N2 - Summary. The measurement of missed care: problems and pitfalls. Missed care (MC) is a significant problem in acute care hospitals and nursing homes. Prioritization strategies of nurses deprive patients of nursing interventions leaving them vulnerable to unmet educational, emotional, and psychological needs. The measurement of MC is subject to the threat of common method/source bias, mainly: surveys based on self reports, inconsistency in the reporting format for MC prevalence, lack of association to patients’ conditions and outcomes. Some of the major pitfalls of MC surveys are discussed.
