N2  -  Summary. The cost of drugs to guarantee the challenges of the National Health Service. Is the argument that high drug prices are a fair and necessary reflection of the high costs incurred to bring a product to market? The article tries to answer this question bringing, among the others, the examples of sofosbuvir and cancer drugs. Using currently available data to measure the relative benefits, risks, and costs of treatment alternatives and then actively disseminating those insights to prescribers, policymakers, payers, and patients could be an option. The growth of independent agencies and technical committees to assess for each marketed drug the overlap or added value with the already existing therapies is warranted, together with a public discussion of the information produced.
