N2  -  Summary. Women, science, medicine, health care. Underrepresentation of women at the higher ranks of medicine and science is well established worldwide. Career advancement of female scientists is reported to be adversely affected by gender disparities, salary, and grant application review processes. Flagrant examples of abusive and discriminatory treatment continue to emerge and Lancet dedicated an issue on women in medicine seeking to address some confronting topics, avoiding the logic of rhetoric and discussing with examples and proposals how some of the problems of equity and social justice towards women could be addressed.
